WIIT is the World Institute of Innovation and Technology for Developing Countries, established jointly by AAE and WIDCO. It focuses on the introduction, adaptation and localisation of innovative technology for developing countries, rather than on simply replicating mature technology solutions.
- Track appropriate technologies suited to conditions in developing countries, including low-cost construction materials, small-scale energy systems, water treatment and agricultural mechanization.
- Conduct technical assessment to help African countries judge whether a technology is genuinely feasible given local economics, infrastructure and maintenance capacity.
- Provide short technical training and a case library for engineers and technicians.
- Work with universities and companies on pilot, scale-up and demonstration projects, rather than stopping at reports.
