Engineering in Future Education

Digitization, artificial intelligence, automation and the green transition are changing how engineers work. AAE follows these changes without chasing the latest label. The question we ask is practical: given unreliable power supplies and limited digital infrastructure, how should engineering education in Africa adapt?

  • Integrate data literacy, modelling and simulation, and sustainable design into the engineering curriculum.
  • Support online courses, open educational resources and shared teaching, to make up for shortages of staff and textbooks.
  • Address the new knowledge requirements placed on engineers by the low-carbon transition and climate adaptation.
  • Keep foundational engineering principles and hands-on practice, even as new digital tools are introduced.
