Universities are the main source of Africa’s engineers and the main site of engineering research. AAE looks not at the number of courses, but at whether curricula are relevant to local problems, whether laboratory and design work are adequate, and whether graduates can carry out engineering tasks independently.
- Support curriculum reform that increases design practice, project-based learning and industrial placement.
- Promote quality assurance and peer review in engineering higher education, and share international experience in engineering accreditation.
- Organise advice, lectures and joint supervision between Fellows and African universities.
- Support young faculty and doctoral students in research that addresses real engineering problems.
