AAE does not run its own research institute and does not compete with universities for projects. We support research that is anchored in a clearly defined engineering problem and that has an industrial or governmental partner involved.
- Give priority to engineering research on local African problems in infrastructure, energy, water, agriculture and the environment.
- Convene panels of Fellows to provide peer review of applications.
- Provide support through small seed grants, matching funds for joint research, and advisory engineering support.
- Ask funded projects to end with a concise report for decision-makers and the public, not only academic papers.
