The future pipeline of engineers is decided at secondary school. AAE encourages Fellows and members to work in schools, through open days, competitions, lectures and practical workshops, so that students can see what engineers actually do before they choose a career.
- Support science, technology, engineering and mathematics outreach at secondary level.
- Pay particular attention to participation by girls and students in rural areas, and to early dropout.
- Offer short training and teaching resources to secondary teachers who want to bring engineering into their classroom.
- Use role models to show students the engineering career paths that exist within Africa itself.
