AAE supports research and innovation that respond to engineering problems; it does not encourage research produced for its own sake. The research resources published by the Academy include:
- Policy briefs and technical reports on specific engineering problems.
- Industry reviews and technology assessments led by Fellows.
- Lessons learned from demonstration projects carried out with universities and companies.
- Public engineering communication materials, helping the public understand the technical trade-offs behind major engineering decisions.
All publicly released research identifies authors, funding sources and conflicts of interest, and can be checked externally.
