AAE’s education and skills work is aligned with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and its supporting frameworks, including the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA), the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA) and the Continental TVET Strategy. Within these frameworks, engineering is regarded as a key capability for African industrialisation, infrastructure connectivity and the green transition.

AAE’s contribution under Agenda 2063:

  • Provide professional advice to the AU and member states on the provision of engineering disciplines, the scale of engineer training and competency standards.
  • Bring engineering education closer to labour-market demand, reducing the mismatch between graduate unemployment and industry shortages.
  • Support cross-national recognition of engineering education and credit transfer, so that African engineers can move across the continent.
